Ramanuja | Religious Beliefs and Popular Movements | Class VII

The Vaishnava saint Ramanuja was born in Tamil Nadu in the 11th century, was one of the key proponents of Bhakti philosophy. He believed in the equality of all human beings and spoke against the practice of forbidding lower castes’ entry into temples. Ramanuja preached the doctrine of vishishtadvaita or ‘qualified oneness’, that the soul, even when united with God remained distinct.
